10. IC-24/7 nights

The common motto of SU students is "There is no time for anything in this university."

Last day one of our teacher said that the most effective learning is to allow time to lectures in this way:

For example , ENG 102 is 3 credit. So to do homeworks(blogging, reading article, bibliography stuff) in flawless way and for repeating the lectures, we need 3X3 times per week.

For example for HIST 192, because of its credit, we need 2X3 times.

So with a little calculation,
I have got 20 credit.
20X3= 60 .
I need clear 60 hour.
60/6 = 10(saturday and sunday is not for 8 hours studying, so i counted them as a one day ;)
It means i must study 10 hours per day. (It is including the lecture-hours too).
So if i sleep 8 hours a day.
There is 6 hours in a day which i would be free.
2.5 hour for eating.
3.5 is for me.

Actually it is too easy to make calculation like this in the paper. Life is not simple like this, for example your friend is crying and you must cheer her up. It can take 2 hours. I can't say that " Sorry , this hour is for my Math 102 studying."

So, that is why we are feeling like, "There is no time for anything in SU."

And when i thought it in the Midterm weeks. I am being "bat" for one day, and not sleeping.

I am at IC's 7/24 Reading Room with lots of "bat" students who has midterm in this week. And it is 03:46 now . Ehhm ... No comment :D

I hope we will do our best on NS 102 exam.

Good Luck!

  1. This is a great post...and so, so true. This is the most frustrating aspect of being a teacher at SU. Students have to take too many courses at one time! This results in superficial learning and stress. And yes, what your teacher said is also what we were taught - but in American universities, students generally take a maximum of 5 classes at once, and actually 12 credits is considered full-time study! So it's actually possible to devote enough time to your studies.

These midterm weeks drive me mad. Again we see the misguided importance placed on passing exams rather than going through a gradual learning process and building up skills. And of course the vast majority of students then perceive NS, etc. as 'real' or 'important' courses and ENG as 'a waste of time'.

I wish you the best of luck in your exam...

p.s. one tiny thing: in English we say 24/7! :-p

  3. Oh yes, i forgot the time zone(i promise i was not cheating :) , i will try to fix it now.

I didn't know that it is 24/7 in English. I am changing my topic then. Thank you

I never see ENG 102 as a waste of time.

Rather than memorizing problem sets without learning Chemistry , i will improve myself with ENG 102 with pleasure.

I don't know how to reach Natural Science course. But i am trying to.

I hope i could make it as useful as ENG 102 in this term.

But from where i must start?

Friends who are succesful at NS lecture, i am listening your advices, please share with me :)
