As we know, Sabancı is maybe most diffucult university for getting scholarship. So people who get scholarship are really succesful in lessons.
But how about interest and inspiration? Can't be other students too very desire to improve theirselves?
Stereotyping students with scholarships is unavoidable for teachers i agree but generaling others is not healthy.
I don't know if i had a scholarship maybe i wouldn't think like this but i don't know , i just wanted to share my emotions with you...
I think every person is ore. And enthusiasm is not related with our ÖSS degree.

I couldn't agree more. Enthusiasm and scholarships are often totally separate things.
ReplyDeleteIn your view, how do teachers stereotype students with scholarships? Do you mean in a positive sense? Do they treat them differently/better?
As a teacher, I much prefer interest and enthusiasm over anything else. Fortunately, I don't know the scholarship situation of the vast majority of my students. I don't want to know.
It's a very good discussion topic, and I'm curious as well to know what other students think...
p.s. what did you mean by 'ore'? ;)
ReplyDeleteI meaned by "ore" essence of jewelery, valuable stone.
ReplyDeleteIt's turkish is "cevher".
It is ordinary piece of stone but if you work in certain process on it, it will become as valuable as treasure like amethyst or emerald.
I wanted to say, even in the children who lives in the street is a "ore". Everybody has got potential to be a glorified person.
Just, they must have enough education and must learn the way of how to improve themselves.
Unfortunately, some of instructors are really caring about student's scholarship situation.
How gladsome that you are not caring about it!
Do you know, some instructors are even not daring to ask to their GPA's to students which hasn't got scholarships after asking all students in the table who has got scholarships and not giving them "challenging" works because of that think they are not "capable".
Isn't that very big prejudgement?
But, thank you Sonja,
for not being one of them...
ahh okay, from your explanation, I think you can translate "cevher" as "a diamond in the rough" - everyone has potential, and with enough shaping and polishing, they can shine. I also agree with this.
ReplyDeleteI am really shocked and disgusted to hear that some students are not being given challenging work on the basis of not having scholarships. This is wrong!! Perhaps we should talk more about this...
